DSPPA MAG Network System in the Singapore General Hospital

The Singapore General Hospital (SGH) is the public sector's flagship hospital. Established in 1821, the SGH is Singapore's oldest and largest acute tertiary hospital and national referral centre. A multi-disciplinary approach to medical care affords patients to ready access to a wide range of specialties and support services. SGH accounts for about one third of total acute hospital beds in the public sector and about a quarter of acute beds nationwide. Annually about 70,000 patients are admitted to our wards and another 600,000 attended to at our Specialist Outpatient Clinics.

Project overview

The Singapore General Hospital has many operating rooms, section offices, slypes, waiting rooms, sickrooms. We set total 128 zones for background music and paging.

User requirements

1. There are a total of 128 zones. Each zone will be equipped a 400W main amplifier and also matched a spare amplifier basing on 4 main amplifiers.

2. Each zone requires automatic monitoring function. The working state of the amplifier can be showed in the host. If there is failure of the equipment, it will be alarmed and automatable printed out.

3. There are two paging device. A paging device require direct selection button, which has 12 built-in voice messages. Another paging device requires paging directly, and can be carried out directly on every building.

4. The equipment room is 500 meters away from the control room. It means that the host needs remote control function.

5. Timing control cycle is calculated by year.

6. Each zone contains 3 sub-districts, and the sub-district is controlled by timing programme.

System Configuring and Design Project

1. Background music  

The sound sources consist of CD player, cassette player, radio receiver and MP3 player. The audio signal input MAG1189 intelligent host unit to be magnified, and then input intelligent amplifier to amplify the power and output constant voltage, and to realize zone or all zone broadcast different background music. The slypes, waiting rooms, and sickrooms are full of background music. It will make the patients so lenitive and comfortable and do improve service quality of SGH.

2. Zone paging function

The operating rooms and section offices do not need background music but need zone paging. DSPPA MAG1189 intelligent host unit, the host unit will output the paging signal to corresponding DSPPA MAG intelligent amplifiers for paging. The host unit can control the peripheral device on or off automatically by setting timing points and can realize unmanned monitoring around the clock. Timing zone broadcast is available to facilitate the hospital daily management.
